What is Quartzene?
Quartzene is a precipitated amorphous aerogel-like silicate material which is used to bring or enhance special functionality to various materials and products. Quartzene is manufactured in a patented waterborne process using a commodity type of silica source, and opens up a wider use than classic aerogels due to its better cost performance.

Quartzene Grades Recommended for Coatings
Svenska Aerogel manufactures different grades of Quartzene that are optimized for specific markets and needs. The Z1 (hydrophilic) and Z1H1 (hydrophobic) have been the standard grades for thermal insulation applications, and now two newer grades have been introduced – Z2TP (hydrophilic) and Z2H1TP (hydrophobic). The Z2TP and Z2H1TP grades are manufactured using a new drying technique that allows for greater control of particle size.
Features of Z2TP and Z2H1TP:
- Larger particles > easier to incorporate
- Less influence on viscosity > allows higher addition level
- Slightly higher density
- Thermal conductivity in the same range
