(Conshohocken, October 28, 2020) Brian Boorman, Executive Vice President of Van Horn, Metz & Co., Inc., passed away October 22, 2020 at the age of 57 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Brian is survived by his wife Debra whom he was happily married to for over 31 years and his three sons: Jeffrey Boorman, Kevin Boorman, and Matthew Boorman.
Brian graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University, and began his career as a Chemist for Congoleum, where he manufactured vinyl flooring products. After that, he served as an Engineering Consultant for two years at Factory Mutual Engineering. Brian joined VHM in September 1988, as a regional sales manager, initiating growth and success since day one. His work ethic was second-to-none, as he was always able to maintain a balance between providing for his family and sustaining an active parenting role.
During his more than 20-year career with the business, Brian served as the President of the Philadelphia Society for Coatings Technology from 2004-2005, President of the Philadelphia Paints and Coatings Association and President of the Chemical Club of Philadelphia in 2011 and 2012. Brian dedicated his passion for the industry to inspire members of these associations, not only as a president, but also as a board member. His leadership and sales skills acquired during his journey, promoted Brian to VHM’s Executive Vice President in 2014 and to Chief Operating Officer in 2016.
His knowledge and love of his work was reflected in the relationships he developed with customers, principals and colleagues during the course of his career. Many will remember Brian for his remarkably calming presence and perpetual sense of optimism. Brian took sincere interest in helping others and will continue to be with the team forever in our hearts.
